Kingdom of Thai (Thai official name: ราช อาณาจักร ไทย Ratcha Anachak Thai, or Thai Prathēt), which is more often called in English, Thai, or Thai Mueang in its original language (pronounced "go-thai", together with its English version, means "Thai State"), is a country in Southeast Asia, which borders Laos and Cambodia to the east, Malaysia and the Gulf of Siam in the south, and Myanmar and the Andaman Sea in the west. Thai kingdom formerly known as Siam until May 11, 1949. The word "Thai" (ไทย) means "freedom" in Thai, but can also refer to the tribe of Thai, resulting in the name of Siam was still in use among Thai citizens, especially the Chinese minority.
The origin of the Thai kingdom has traditionally been linked with a short-lived empire, kingdom of Sukhothai founded in 1238. The kingdom was then forwarded the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, founded in the mid 14th century and is larger than the Sukhothai. Royal Thai culture strongly influenced by China and India. Relationships with several major European countries starting in the 16th century, but despite strong pressure, the Thai kingdom remained as the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by European countries, despite Western influence, including threats of violence, resulting in various changes in the 19th century and gave many concessions to the British merchants. 


A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to the commencement of the constitutional monarchy. Formerly known as Siam, the country is changing its international name to "Thailand" in 1939 and for all, having never once changed back to his old name post-World War II. In war, the Royal Thai alliance with Japan, but during World War II ended, the Royal Thai becomes ally of the United States. Some of the coup occurred in the years after the end of the war, but the Royal Thai began moving toward democracy since the 1980's.


Royal Thai calendar is based on the Year of the Buddha, which is faster than the 543 years the Western calendar. In 2000 AD the same as in 2543 the Royal Thai calendar. 

On December 26, 2004, the west coast of the Kingdom Thaiditerjang 10-meter-high tsunami following the earthquake in the Indian Ocean, 2004, killing 5,000 people in the Thai kingdom, and half are tourists. 

In early 2005, there was a tragedy in the southern Thai kingdom that have a population with a Muslim majority. About 70 people were killed due to violence perpetrated by the regime Shinawatra. Many countries strongly condemn this tragedy. But in choosing the head of government, Thaksin Shinawatra back to rule the country for the next four years.
